Palmetto, LA., United States (4E) – Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to visit areas where black churches were burned by an arsonist last month.
Pence will be in Louisiana’s St. Landry Parish Friday and reportedly meet up with church leaders and parishioners.
Holden Matthews, the 21-year-old son of a St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputy, was arrested April 10 for his alleged role in fires that destroyed St. Mary Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives found a charred Scepter brand red gas at the site of the fire, according to court records and Matthews was said to have bought gas can at a Walmart in Opelousas just hours before the first blaze was set on March 25.
Other similar evidence is also said to be tied to Matthews, who was charged with three counts of simple arson of a religious building.
