New York, NY, United States (4E) – Unvaccinated children have been barred from public places for 30 days in Rockland County, New York as city officials take more serious steps to halt the spread of measles that has plagued the area since late 2018.
Brooklyn and Queens have had 214 cases of confirmed measles, including Williamsburg with 161.
Rockland County, located just north of New York City, checks in with 155 confirmed cases according to health officials there.
Pneumonia, permanent deafness and brain damage can be caused by measles, so officials are taking the situation seriously, especially regarding children.
Travelers returning from Israel, where a larger outbreak of the disease has hit, could be a link to New York City’s latest measles concern.
