NYC, NY, United States (4E) – The UN reported that measles cases have tripled worldwide in 2019; with Africa’s rate rising 700 percent.
As only one in 10 cases is actually reported, the number may be even higher according to the organization.
Ukraine, Madagascar and India have been especially hard hit by the highly infectious viral illness that can lead to serious lung and brain damage.
Brazil, Pakistan and Yemen has dealt with the death of many young children due to outbreaks of the disease.
While the disease is “entirely preventable” according to the UN, global coverage of the first immunisation stage has only reached 85%, “still short of the 95% needed to prevent outbreaks”.
