New York, NY, United States (4E) – Many of the best cars being sold in the United States came from Toyota, according to Consumer Reports’ 2018 ranking of the best vehicles.
Toyota accounted for four of the 10 vehicles in Consumer Reports’ annual top picks, the most of any brand. The 2018 Corolla and 2018 Camry are the best small and midsize cars. Sienna is the best minivan while the Highlander is the best midsize SUV.
“Part of what helps Toyota is just really impressive reliability across the board,” said Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports.
Others in the top 10 are Chevrolet Bolt electric car (best small green car, a new category, and the Ford F-150, which is the top full-size pickup truck.
The Hyundai Genesis, four-door, five passenger, rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan now in its second generation, was the top performer in the magazine’s 2018 brand rankings. Consumer Reports, however, noted it tested only two Genesis sedans, which were first marketed in 2008.
The Subaru Forester was the top pick among small SUVs for the fifth straight year. The Chevrolet Impala was the top pick among large sedans for the fourth straight year.
Audi, BMW, Lexus and Porsche were also among the top five brands. Tesla, Inc was eighth, with two of its four models recommended. Toyota came in tenth, with 15 of its 20 models recommended.
The rankings are based on driving tests plus reliability and satisfaction scores from Consumer Reports’ subscribers. Top picks also must have automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems as standard.
Consumer Reports didn’t recommend vehicles from Fiat, Jeep, Land Rover, Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi, Jaguar, GMC, Dodge, Mini, Cadillac and Volvo because of low road test scores, poor crash test performance or questionable reliability.
