Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – ‘Spider-Man’ has been a continuing success for Sony and Marvel on the big screen. Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Viniciquerra hinted at other plans for the friendly neighborhood superhero, saying there’s a plan to bring Peter Parker and his friend to the small screen.
Speaking to Variety, Viniciquerra said Sony already has an entire plan for the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise laid out for the next seven or eight years. The plan not only includes movies, but also a potential television series.
“Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop,” Viniciquerra said.
Following the success of ‘Venom’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, Sony is confident that its future Spider-Man-based spin-off projects will be met with the same success. Considering the vast number of characters the franchise has yet to explore, the team is still far from determining which ones would be starring in their own spin-offs.
‘Into the Spider-Verse’ in particular received massive acclaim for its storyline and unique visuals. It won Best Animated Feature Film at the 2019 Academy Awards and BAFTA Awards. It also won Best Motion Picture-Animated at the Golden Globes this year.
Aside from working on their plans to venture into television, they are also “developing a lot of Marvel-related content.”
Meanwhile, Tom Holland will return as Spider-Man in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Endgame’. He will also reprise his role in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, which will hit theaters on July 5, 2019.
