Washington, DC, United States (4E) – The call for gun rights advocates to take to the streets throughout the nation on April 14 to defend their right to bear arms failed spectacularly with protests drawing anywhere from less than 50 persons to 1,000 at most.
A heretofore unknown group called the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans claimed it had permits for gatherings in 45 states. It encouraged supporters to bring unloaded rifles in states where it’s legal.
The pathetic gun rights rallies came less than three weeks after more than one million persons marched in Washington, New York and elsewhere on March 14 to demand tougher gun laws. This record-setting anti-gun violence protest came a month after the horrific shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida where 17 students and teachers were murdered by a student armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
Media reported some 40 gun rights supporters gathered at the state Capitol in Atlanta. Some 100 persons assembled in front of the Wyoming Supreme Court building in Cheyenne. In Augusta, Maine, about 800 people showed-up to protest what they claim are attempts to limit their Second Amendment rights.
Some 400 people were said to have gathered in front of Delaware’s statehouse to support gun rights. Some of these people openly carried rifles and handguns.
