Washington, DC, United States (4E) – North Korean state-run media reported the nation’s leader, Kim Jong Un, is overseeing the testing of a new “tactical guided weapon”.
It’s North Korea’s first announced weapons test in over a year, raising concerns that Un’s negotiations with US President Donald Trump are seriously stalling.
The event could also show that North Korea is intent on increasing its forces as it attempts to rise in stature on the world stage.
When asked about the situation in February, Trump indicated he wasn’t so much concerned about North Korea’s arsenal as he was about further testing. The new activity could get the Republican’s attention.
Trump has said he wants North Korea to dismantle all of its nuclear bombs in order to lift economic sanctions against the nation. Un apparently is only willing to take apart North Korea’s main nuclear facility, Yongbyan, leading to a stalemate between the two leaders.
