Irvine, CA, United States (4E) – “Hydrogen One,” the world’s first smartphone with a “4-view” display that projects holographic images, should hit store shelves in the summer. RED Digital Cinema, maker of Hydrogen One, began accepting pre-orders for Hydrogen One late last year and those that pre-ordered can test the phone in April.
RED founder Jim Jannard praised the big phone’s display quality; audio quality; build quality; the versatility of the module system and the “cool as hell” scalloped sides. Apart from being two ounces heavier than other 5.7″ smartphones, the Android Hydrogen One is also wider and thicker. The phone’s also comes with a huge 4500mAh battery since the holographic feature eats-up a lot of power.
“Think SOLID,” said Jannard.
He also claimed Hydrogen One enjoys “unprecedented” carrier support but didn’t reveal the names of these carriers. Jannard said Hydrogen One’s 4-view holographic display is better than 3D, and is more immersive and spectacular.
“It gives a completely different feeling,” said Jannard of 4-view.
“All the pixels are there … but instead of ‘looking at’ a pic, you are immersed in the image. It is quite spectacular. We are showing prototypes now to content producing partners in preparation for the HYDROGEN Network.
“This will be the one place to find all 4V content online. From major studios and other content providers to creating your own channel. We will be able to announce our social media partners pretty soon. You will not be disappointed who is supporting HYDROGEN 4V. Big dogs.”
Jannard said that in 2D mode, which is the display on a normal smartphone, the display resolution comes in at 2560 × 1440.
“In 4V mode, the screen dims a bit and out pops a ‘better than 3D’ image … No glasses needed. There is no way to describe this. You just have to see it. So far, everyone that has seen it gasps, swears or just grins. I wish we had recorded all the reactions. Priceless.”
He said the phone’s audio is equally impressive. Also as impressive is the phone’s modular design that let a user stack other modules on top of it, including battery modules, and a “cinema grade camera module,” among others.
Hydrogen One is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor and comes with a headphone jack; dual SIM support; microSD support and USB-C connectivity.
