Cupertino, CA, United States (4E) – Apple, Inc will launch a new entry-level MacBook Air (Apple’s entry level laptop) sometime from March to May to replace the existing model introduced in 2015.
The MacBook Air is Apple’s least expensive notebook computer. The current model sports a 13-inch screen, and was Apple’s thinnest notebook computer until the introduction of the MacBook in March 2015.
On the other hand, the upcoming 2018 MacBook Air will be priced about the same as the current Air (which starts at $999). The Air is the cheapest MacBook sold by Apple.
Analysts said this pricing means the new model will replace existing one. The new MacBook Air will come with a 13.3-inch display featuring a resolution of 2560 x 1600, which is a big improvement from the low-quality 1600 x 900 resolution display of the current Air.
Apple plans to ship from four to six million units of the upcoming MacBook during 2018. The new Air might have a USB-C port and a TouchID sensor. The current Air, which has received only minor updates such as a new processor since 2015, features two USB Type-A 3.0 ports and a Thunderbolt 2 port.
Other sources claim Apple will launch the new Air with a Retina screen at its annual developer conference in June. Speculation also says Apple will also unveil a new lower-cost iPad with the new Air to increase sales to both schools and students.
