Washington, DC, United States (4E) – Ex- Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen says the president’s attorney told him to deceive about the date of a Moscow project’s negotiation.
Cohen told lawmakers that negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow ceased six months earlier than they actually did, meaning they continued at a time it was apparent Trump would be the GOP nominee.
Cohen says he was instructed by Trump attorney Jay Sekulow to give the earlier date to apparently avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest by the eventual president for having business dealings with Russia.
Sekulow’s attorney’s fired back at the assertion he asked Cohen to change dates regarding the matter.
“Cohen’s alleged statements are more of the same from him and confirm the observations of prosecutors in the Southern District of New York that Cohen’s ‘instinct to blame others is strong..That this or any Committee would rely on the word of Michael Cohen for any purpose — much less to try and pierce the attorney-client privilege and discover confidential communications of four respected lawyers — defies logic, well-established law and common sense,” they said.
Cohen’s claims about Sekulow are in transcripts of his February and March appearances before the House intelligence panel, which could be released to the public soon.
Cohen has a three year prison term for lying to Congress along with financial crimes and campaign finance violations.
