Seattle, WA, United States (4E) – Amazon’s Echo Dot, a hockey puck-sized version of the Amazon Echo smart speaker, was the top-selling product on Amazon.com across all categories from any manufacturer.
Amazon said it sold millions of the device, but didn’t reveal hard numbers. It also said its Alexa-enabled devices (the Echo Spot, Echo Dot and Echo Buttons) sold out this holiday season. Alexa is the speech recognition feature used on Amazon Echo.
Amazon’s Alexa app was also a top seller for Apple and Google Play on Christmas Day. Amazon said it sold “tens of millions” of Alexa-enabled devices worldwide.
The company said this year was its biggest holiday season to date, “with customers all around the world shopping at record levels.” Amazon also more than four million people became Prime members, or started a free trial, in just one week.
Amazon Prime is a paid subscription service offered by Amazon that gives users access to free two-day delivery (one-day in select areas), streaming video/music and other benefits for a monthly or yearly fee.
Amazon said Whole Foods Market (a leader in natural and organic foods), which it owns, sold more than 500,000 pounds of desserts at the cookie bars in its U.S. stores.
